Rare Earths Metals

Lanthanum metal*

The light-gray, elastic lanthanum metal oxidizes immediately upon contact with air and reacts with water to form hydroxide.

Yttrium metal*

The iron-gray yttrium metal is relatively stable in large pieces when in contact with air. In contact with water, it reacts to form hydroxide.

Cerium metal*

Cerium metal is an iron-gray, soft, very elastic rare earth metal. Chemically very responsive, it oxidizes very quickly in contact with air and water.

Neodymium metal*

Neodymium metal forms an oxide coating on the surface when it comes into contact with air.

Gadolinium metal*

Gadolinium metal is a silvery white, soft and malleable rare earth metal with unusual supraconductive and magnetic properties. It is relatively stable in air.
