Carbonitrides

Carbonitrides are manufactured through the carbothermal reduction and nitridation of titanium oxide at high temperatures in a vacuum furnace. The powder produced from our patented process has a spherical morphology and exceptionally narrow particle size distribution when compared with titanium carbonitride produced from titanium metal.

The main application for titanium carbonitride is the production of cermets.
Just like classical WC-Co hard metals, cermets also require special additives such as molybdenum carbide (Mo2C), TaC, NbC and, in special cases, WC. These additives can also be manufactured in the form of solid solution mixed crystals with titanium carbonitride.

Titanium carbonitride Ti(C,N)
• Typical mixing ratios TiC /TiN 50/50, 30/70, 70/30
• Particle sizes: Fine, standard

Mixed carbonitrides
• (Ti,W)(C,N)
• (Ti,Mo)(C,N)
