Lanthanum metal

Lanthanum metal

Lanthanum is a light grey, ductile rare earth metal. It is used in the steel and foundry industries.

Lanthanum metal (often just called lanthanum) is a light grey, ductile rare earth metal, oxidizes immediately in air and reacts with water to form hydroxide. Lanthanum is used as a pure form or as a component in mischmetal. In addition to the production of flints, it is used as a reducing agent in metallurgy. As a cast iron additive, it supports the formation of nodular graphite and, as an alloy additive, it brings about an improvement in oxidation resistance.

Treibacher lanthanum metal is available in various forms (e.g. lanthanum wire) and specifications.
