Treibacher Industrie AG is a leading supplier of both advanced raw materials for the production of thermal spray powders, and of ready-to-spray powders for a number of speciality applications. Our main products include:

Raw materials for making thermal spray powders

  • Rare-earth oxides for stabilized zirconias used in thermal barrier coartings (TBCs), e.g. yttrium oxide (Y2O3), ytterbium oxide (Yb2O3), gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3), dysprosium oxide (Dy2O3)
  • High purity (5N) yttrium oxide for semiconductor industry
  • Hafnium oxide (HfO2)
  • Yttrium metal for MCrAlY bond coats
  • Chromium carbides (Cr2C3) for corrosion resistance, tungsten carbides (WC) for wear resistance
  • Special non-oxides e.g. titanium boride (TiB2), zirconium boride (ZrB2), chromium nitride (CrN2)

Ready-to-spray powders

  • Substoichiometric oxides e.g. TiOx
  • YSZ suspensions and other zirconia based suspensions for Suspension Plasma Spraying (SPS)
  • Fused and crushed YSZ
  • Rare-earth silicates for environmental barrier coatings (EBCs)
  • Special mixed oxides: LSM, LSCF

Treibacher Industrie AG offers a truly comprehensive approach to thermal spray materials and coatings development. In addition to our wide range of development and manufacturing technologies, we now have the capability to produce and evaluate thermal spray coatings in-house. 


At our new state-of-the-art Thermal Spray Center in Althofen, Austria, we are equipped to spray both powders and suspensions.  Our capabilities include:

  • Gravimetric powder feeder

  • Measurement of particle temperature and velocity
  • Deposition efficiency according to DIN EN ISO 17836
  • Optical and scanning-electron microscopy
  • Chemical and phase analytics
  • Hardness tests according to DIN EN ISO 4516
  • Wear tests according to DIN and ASTM
  • Thermal conductivity in coating systems
  • Coefficient of thermal expansion
  • Thermal cycling up to 1600°C (2900°F)

Our experienced technicians and application engineers will assist you in the planning and operation of your thermal spray experiments.  This is further supported by our expertise in upscaling new materials from the lab scale to production.


Thermal spray powders and suspensions

All spray powders and suspensions are developed and manufactured according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. In addition, a range of products are produced according to EN/AS 9100 (aerospace).
